What is CNC?
A ComputerisedNumerical Control machine (CNC) is an automated machine which processes a piece of material to meet certain parameters according to coded information, without any manual effort.
What is a VMC machine?
A CNC machine with Vertical Machining Centers(VMC) have vertically oriented spindles. VMC workpieces are mounted on top of their table & perform standard 2.5 or 3 axis machining operations.
Difference between a CNC & VMC?
CNC is an abbreviation for Computer Numerical Control while VMC is Vertical Machining Centre. VMC is basically a type of CNC machine.
Usually when we say CNC in Industrial sector, we mean CNC Lathe. So the basic difference between CNC Lathe and VMC is that in CNC lathe, turning operation of the workpieces are conducted while in VMC, milling operations are conducted. In CNC Lathe, the workpieces are stationery and the tool rotates. While in VMC, the tool rotates and the workpieces are stationery.
